Eye Tracking in AR/VR Headsets
Virtual reality and augmented reality headsets need to know exactly where you are looking to render graphics properly and let you interact with virtual menus. They do this by shining invisible light onto your eyes and tracking the tiny reflections. This filter is placed over the internal tracking camera to block out the bright, flashing colors from the headset's own display screen, as well as any sunlight leaking into the room. By only letting the pure 910nm tracking light pass through, it guarantees the headset never loses track of your gaze, no matter how bright the virtual environment gets.
Recommended light source:
- 910 nm VCSEL: These lasers are incredibly tiny and use very little power, making them perfect for fitting inside a compact headset without draining the battery or generating excess heat.
- 910 nm Micro-LED: This provides a soft, safe, and even glow across the eye. It prevents any harsh glare or hot spots, ensuring the user remains comfortable during long periods of wear.

Covert Security and Night Vision
Security cameras use this to see clearly in pitch-black conditions without tipping off intruders. The monitored area is flooded with invisible infrared light. The extreme blocking feature of this filter stops ambient streetlights, car headlights, or daytime sun from washing out the camera sensor. Meanwhile, the narrow 10nm opening ensures only the pure, invisible security light reaches the camera lens to create a crisp image.
Recommended light source:
- 910 nm Infrared LED: Unlike older 850 nm security LEDs that emit a faint, tell-tale red glow, 910 nm light is completely invisible to the human eye. This gives the camera true stealth capabilities while still lighting up the area brightly for the sensor.
- 910 nm Laser Illuminator: Used for long-range, military, or border patrol night vision. It can throw a focused beam of invisible light over vast distances, and the filter ensures the camera only picks up this specific beam instead of random background light.
