This is a specialized optical window designed to act like a bouncer at a club. It is built to only let through a very specific, invisible type of deep ultraviolet (UV) light—centered at 266 nanometers—while heavily blocking almost all other light, from other UV rays all the way to near-infrared.

Application - UV Raman Spectroscopy

This is a laboratory technique used to figure out the chemical makeup of a material by shining light on it and reading how that light scatters. Using deep UV light around 266nm is highly valuable because it prevents the sample from "glowing" (fluorescence), which would otherwise hide the faint chemical signals scientists are trying to read.
