Fluorescence Microscopy
In biology and medical research, scientists use special dyes that glow to see tiny cell structures. This filter is perfect because it acts as a wall that completely blocks the harsh blue or green light used to "excite" or wake up the dye, while allowing the much dimmer yellow, red, or infrared glowing light from the actual sample to pass cleanly into the camera.
Recommended light source:
- Blue or Green LED light source: They provide strong, focused energy to make the samples glow, and because their light is strictly under 530nm, the filter will perfectly block them from blinding the camera.
- Broadband Xenon Arc light source: This produces a massive amount of bright light across all colors; when paired with an initial filter that only lets blue/green out to hit the sample, the LP540 acts as the perfect secondary shield for the camera.

Industrial Machine Vision
Factories use automated cameras to inspect products for flaws on fast-moving assembly lines. By putting this filter over the camera lens, it blocks out all the bright, scattered blue and green ambient lighting in the factory. This allows the camera to only see the specific red or infrared lights used to illuminate the product, completely removing background glare and shadows.
Recommended light source:
- Red LED light source: Red light (typically around 630nm) passes almost perfectly through this filter, meaning the camera gets a highly efficient, bright image of the product without wasting any of the light's energy.
- Near-Infrared (NIR) LED light source: Invisible to the human eye but easily seen by cameras, NIR light (like 850nm) passes right through this filter and is fantastic for seeing through dark plastics, checking liquid levels, or inspecting food quality.
