BP260-15 Bandpass Filter - Germicidal and Sterilization Monitoring

This is a specialized optical filter designed to act like a very strict bouncer for light. It only allows a specific type of invisible, deep ultraviolet light (called UVC) to pass through, while completely blocking visible light and other unwanted UV rays.

Specificaton

  • Center Wavelength (BP260): Its "sweet spot" is exactly at 260 nanometers (nm), which is deep in the UVC spectrum.
  • Bandwidth (-15): It has a "window" of 15 nm. This means it lets light through between roughly 252.5 nm and 267.5 nm.
  • Blocking (OD3@200-700nm): "OD3" means Optical Density 3. It blocks out 99.9% of all other light from 200nm to 700nm (which covers other UV light and almost all human-visible colors).
  • Transmission (T>50%): It allows more than 50% of the desired 260nm light to successfully pass through the glass.

Application - Germicidal and Sterilization Monitoring

Deep UVC light is used to kill bacteria and viruses in drinking water and hospitals. This filter can be placed over a sensor to measure the exact intensity of the sterilization lights. It ensures the cleaning machines are actually emitting the correct "germ-killing" wavelength at a high enough power to be safe.

Recommended light source:

  • Deep UVC LEDs peaking around 255nm-265nm: They are highly energy-efficient, turn on instantly, and their light perfectly matches the window of this filter.
  • Low-Pressure Mercury Lamps: These are the traditional "germ-killing" tubes that naturally emit a massive spike of light at 254 nm, which slips right through this filter's 252.5-267.5 nm opening.

Application - UV Disinfection System Monitoring

This ensures the disinfection system is actually working safely and effectively, without the sensor being tricked by normal ambient room light.

  • UVC Germicidal LEDs: These modern LEDs emit light exactly at the 260nm-265nm range where it is most fatal to microbes, and their light output matches perfectly with what this specific filter is designed to let through.
  • Low-Pressure Mercury Vapor Lamp: While its primary peak is at 254 nm, it is the most common traditional germicidal light source; a sensor equipped with this 260nm filter can still be used in a broader system to verify the strong presence of deep, sterilizing UV light.
