Green lasers are frequently used to scan 3D objects, measure distances, or align heavy machinery outdoors. By putting this filter over the scanning sensor, the sensor can easily "see" the green laser dot while completely ignoring the sun or bright room lights, which would normally wash out the laser.

Recommended light source:

  • 520nm Green Laser Diodes: This laser's specific color perfectly hits the "sweet spot" of the filter. The sensor gets over 90% of the laser's signal, while 99% of the distracting background light is blocked.
  • 532nm DPSS Lasers: This is an incredibly common and inexpensive type of green laser. It falls just inside the upper edge of this filter's window (which covers roughly 505nm to 535nm), making it a great, easily available option for bright, long-distance alignment.

Underwater Imaging and Mapping

Water absorbs almost all red and infrared light, but it allows green light to pass through very easily. Underwater drones or surveying cameras use this green filter to block out murky, scattered background light. By focusing only on the most penetrating green wavelengths, the camera can capture much clearer video or map the seafloor at greater depths.

Recommended light source:

  • Green LEDs (520nm): These are incredibly power-efficient, which is vital for battery-operated underwater drones. They provide a wide flood of green light that perfectly matches the filter, ensuring the camera catches the maximum amount of returning light without wasting battery on colors that the water would just absorb anyway.
  • 532nm Pulsed Lasers: These are heavily used for "Bathymetric LiDAR" (mapping the depth of the seafloor from a boat or low-flying drone). The green laser easily pierces the water, and the filter on the receiver catches the returning green reflection while completely blocking out blinding sunlight glare from the water's surface.
