Microscopy and Projection (Protecting Heat-Sensitive Samples)

Very bright lights used in medical microscopes or video projectors produce intense infrared radiation, which is essentially pure heat. If left unchecked, this heat can literally cook a delicate biological sample on a microscope slide or melt the plastic components inside a projector. This filter acts as a "heat shield" (often called a hot mirror), letting the useful bright light through while stopping the destructive heat.

Recommended light source:

• Tungsten-Halogen lamps: These are heavily used in biology microscopes to illuminate cells. The advantage of using them with this filter is that you get the bright, continuous light needed to see tiny details without drying out or burning the live cells you are studying.
• Xenon Arc lamps: These are incredibly bright, intense lights used in theater projectors and advanced science equipment. They produce a huge amount of heat. Using this filter allows you to harness the sun-like brightness of the Xenon bulb while safely reflecting the dangerous heat away from the equipment.

Laser Safety Windows and Surgery (Blocking Dangerous Lasers)

In industrial cutting, welding, or medical surgeries, powerful invisible lasers (like Nd:YAG lasers at 1064nm or diode lasers at 808nm) are used. Because these lasers are invisible, they are very dangerous to the human eye and to security cameras. This filter can be used as a viewing window. It completely completely blocks the dangerous invisible laser from escaping, while letting the operator safely see what is happening inside the machine in normal color.

Recommended light source:

• Standard White Room Lighting (Fluorescent or LED): The primary advantage is that the filter lets almost 100% of this everyday light pass through. This allows the human operator or standard security camera to monitor the workspace clearly and naturally without the window looking heavily tinted or dark.
• Visible Red Aiming Lasers (e.g., 650nm): Because the main cutting laser is invisible, operators often use a weak visible red laser to show where the machine is aiming. The advantage of this filter is that it allows the safe red aiming laser to pass right through to the viewer's eye, while aggressively blocking the dangerous invisible cutting laser.
