BP266-10 Bandpass Filter - Deep UV Fluorescence and Spectroscopy
Deep UV Fluorescence and Spectroscopy
Scientists use short-wave UV light to make chemicals, proteins, or biological samples "glow" (fluoresce) to identify what they are made of. Because this filter blocks 99.9% of other light (OD3) and only lets a narrow band of 266nm light through, it acts like a strict shield. It prevents normal room light or the machine's internal glare from blinding the sensitive cameras used to look at the glowing samples.
Recommended light source:
- 266nm Solid-State Laser (Nd:YAG): This is the industry standard because it provides a very powerful, highly focused beam. Since this filter only lets 20% of the light pass through (T=20%), you need a strong starting light like a laser to ensure enough light reaches the sample.
- Deep UV LED (265nm-266nm): These are much smaller, cheaper, and run cooler than lasers. They are perfect for compact, portable lab equipment where you don't need the extreme, blinding power of a laser.

BP266-10 Bandpass Filter - Semiconductor and Microchip Inspection
Semiconductor and Microchip Inspection
Microchips are built on shiny silicon discs. To find microscopic dust or tiny scratches during manufacturing, engineers shine UV light on them. Because 266nm UV light has very short waves, it bounces off tiny defects that normal light would completely miss. This filter is placed over the inspection camera so it only sees the specific UV reflection and isn't distracted by the bright factory lights.
Recommended light source:
- 266nm Diode-Pumped Solid State (DPSS) Laser: It creates a perfectly clean, intense beam that can easily spot microscopic particles on the incredibly shiny surface of a silicon wafer.
- Xenon Arc Lamp: This lamp creates a very bright, broad spectrum of light (like a high-tech flashlight). When you put this filter in front of it, it successfully strips away all the visible light and isolates just the 266nm UV light needed for the inspection, which is cheaper than buying a specialized laser.
Fequently Asked Questions
Will this filter work at an angle?
This filter is optimized for near normal incidence. At larger angles, the center wavelength may shift, which can affect performance. If your system operates at an angle, we recommend validating with a sample.
Can I stack this filter with other filters?
Yes, filters can be stacked to achieve additional blocking or spectral shaping. However, stacking may introduce reflection losses and should be tested in your system.
Can I request a custom wavelength or size?
Yes, we support custom center wavelength (CWL), bandwidth (FWHM), dimensions, and mounting options. Contact us with your requirements for recommendations.
What is the difference between mounted and unmounted filters?
Unmounted filters are bare optics suitable if you already have a holder. Mounted filters come in an anodized aluminum ring (with or without threading) for easier system integration.
