Because this filter heavily blocks the 610-1200nm range (which contains mostly heat-carrying near-infrared energy), it acts as a thermal shield. It allows a camera, microscope, or medical scope to clearly see a subject in visible light (up to yellow) without accidentally burning or drying out sensitive biological tissues and expensive camera sensors with infrared heat.

Recommended light source:

• Tungsten-Halogen Lamps: These traditional bulbs are notorious for throwing off a massive amount of infrared heat. The filter's main advantage is acting as a safety barrier, stripping away the dangerous heat while letting the useful, safe visible light pass through.
• High-Power Fiber Optic Illuminators: Often used in endoscopes or close-up industrial scopes, the filter ensures the intense, concentrated light being piped through doesn't overheat the delicate area being examined.
