Digital Imaging & Machine Vision

Used as an IR-cut filter for CMOS or CCD sensors. Sensors are naturally sensitive to NIR light, which can wash out colors or cause blooming. This filter ensures the camera only sees the visible spectrum plus a small portion of stable NIR.

Recommended Light Sources

• White LED Illumination (400-700nm): Since LEDs emit very little infrared heat compared to traditional bulbs, they maximize the filter's ability to render accurate colors without the risk of sensor saturation or "blooming" caused by stray IR.
• 850nm NIR LED: This specific wavelength sits perfectly within the filter's transmission window (up to 885nm), allowing for clear "night vision" or contrast imaging while the filter blocks longer, disruptive infrared wavelengths (>915nm).

Heat Management (Hot Mirror)

Because it blocks the 915-1350nm range (where significant thermal energy resides), it can be placed in front of sensitive components to prevent heat build-up while allowing visible light through.

Recommended Light Sources

• Halogen or Tungsten Lamps: These broadband sources emit the vast majority of their energy as infrared heat rather than visible light; the filter is essential here to strip away the damaging 915–1350nm thermal bands, creating a "cool" beam that prevents melting or burning of the target.
• Xenon Arc Lamps: These provide high-intensity visible illumination but generate significant infrared radiation; using the SP895 preserves the bright visible spectrum needed for imaging or projection while blocking the specific IR wavelengths that cause rapid heat buildup in sensitive optical components.
• High-Intensity White LEDs: While generally cooler than incandescent bulbs, high-power arrays can still emit residual heat and near-IR energy; the filter ensures that strictly "cold" visible light reaches thermally sensitive biological samples or delicate sensors.
