This BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter is designed to transmit a narrow band around 1535 nm while reducing out-of-band light. It is suitable for infrared sensing, spectroscopy, and optical detection systems using infrared signal detection or broadband source. It helps isolate the target signal, reduce background light, and improve contrast.
Key specifications:
- Wavelength / main spec: 1535 nm center wavelength (CWL)
- Bandwidth / transition spec: 30 nm FWHM
- Transmission / blocking: T >95%; OD3 blocking from 800-1800 nm
- Format / custom option: Available in dia 12.5mm to dia 25mm (mounted/unmounted); Custom sizes and mounting options available on request

BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Eye-Safe Laser Ranging
Eye-Safe Laser Ranging
The 1535 nm wavelength is often chosen for military and industrial laser rangefinders because it is considered "eye-safe" (Class 1). Unlike 1064 nm lasers, which can damage the retina, 1535 nm light is absorbed by the cornea and lens of the eye, preventing it from focusing on the retina and causing damage.
Recommended Light Sources
- Er:Glass Lasers (Erbium-doped Glass): This is the standard light source for this filter. Erbium glass lasers emit specifically at 1535 nm. They are the industry standard for eye-safe laser rangefinders (LRF).
- 1535 nm / 1550 nm LEDs: For shorter-range applications or illumination, SWIR LEDs centered at 1535 nm can be used, though they are less common than lasers for ranging.
- Distributed Feedback (DFB) Lasers: Used in telecommunications, these can be tuned to 1535 nm, though they are typically lower power than the Er:Glass solid-state lasers used for ranging.
-
BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Free-Space Optical Communications
Free-Space Optical Communications
Used in optical receivers to filter out sunlight and other background noise while accepting the signal carrier wavelength.
Recommended Light Sources
- The recommended light source for this specific Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC) application is a 1535 nm Distributed Feedback (DFB) Laser or a Modulated Fiber Laser.
Fequently Asked Questions
Will this filter work at an angle?
This filter is optimized for near normal incidence. At larger angles, the center wavelength may shift, which can affect performance. If your system operates at an angle, we recommend validating with a sample.
Can I stack this filter with other filters?
Yes, filters can be stacked to achieve additional blocking or spectral shaping. However, stacking may introduce reflection losses and should be tested in your system.
Can I request a custom wavelength or size?
Yes, we support custom center wavelength (CWL), bandwidth (FWHM), dimensions, and mounting options. Contact us with your requirements for recommendations.
What is the difference between mounted and unmounted filters?
Unmounted filters are bare optics suitable if you already have a holder. Mounted filters come in an anodized aluminum ring (with or without threading) for easier system integration.
