  • BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Eye-Safe Laser Ranging

    BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Eye-Safe Laser Ranging

    Eye-Safe Laser Ranging

The 1535 nm wavelength is often chosen for military and industrial laser rangefinders because it is considered "eye-safe" (Class 1). Unlike 1064 nm lasers, which can damage the retina, 1535 nm light is absorbed by the cornea and lens of the eye, preventing it from focusing on the retina and causing damage.

    Recommended Light Sources

    • Er:Glass Lasers (Erbium-doped Glass): This is the standard light source for this filter. Erbium glass lasers emit specifically at 1535 nm. They are the industry standard for eye-safe laser rangefinders (LRF).
    • 1535 nm / 1550 nm LEDs: For shorter-range applications or illumination, SWIR LEDs centered at 1535 nm can be used, though they are less common than lasers for ranging.
    • Distributed Feedback (DFB) Lasers: Used in telecommunications, these can be tuned to 1535 nm, though they are typically lower power than the Er:Glass solid-state lasers used for ranging.
  • BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Free-Space Optical Communications

    BP1535-30 Bandpass Filter - Free-Space Optical Communications

    Free-Space Optical Communications

Used in optical receivers to filter out sunlight and other background noise while accepting the signal carrier wavelength.

    Recommended Light Sources

    • The recommended light source for this specific Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC) application is a 1535 nm Distributed Feedback (DFB) Laser or a Modulated Fiber Laser.

Fequently Asked Questions

What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?

For standard mounting (mounted,non-thread):

  • 3.5mm (by default)
  • 6mm (by request)

For unmounted Optics:

  • 0.5mm
  • 1.1mm
  • 2mm

(most of the unmounted optics are having thickness of 1.1mm ~ 2mm)

What is the difference between mountings?

Unmounted:

  • a bare glass optical filter

Mounted:

  • Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.

Metric Mount:

  • Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters

Imperial Mount:

  • Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)

C-Mount:

  • Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
  • dia12.5mm(unmounted)

    Clear Aperture:

    >90%

    Mounting Thickness:

    n.a

    Internal/External Thread:

  • dia12.5mm(mounted)

    Clear Aperture:

    dia9mm

    Mounting Thickness:

    3.5mm

    Internal/External Thread:

  • dia25mm(unmounted)

    Clear Aperture:
