BP280-10 Bandpass Filter - Protein & Amino Acid Analysis
Protein & Amino Acid Analysis
- Context: Amino acids such as Tryptophan and Tyrosine have peak absorption and excitation near 280nm.
- Usage: The filter is used to isolate the excitation wavelength in fluorometers or to filter the source light in absorption spectroscopy.
- Goal: To quantify protein concentration or detect native fluorescence (which typically emits at ~350nm when excited at 280nm).
Recommended Light Sources
- UV-C LEDs (275nm or 280nm): These offer a direct spectral match to your filter, providing high efficiency with minimal heat and no need for warm-up time, ideal for portable fluorometers.
- Deuterium Lamp: This is the industry standard for UV spectroscopy (190–400nm), offering the highest stability and continuous output in the deep UV range where tungsten/halogen sources fail.
- Xenon Flash Lamp: These provide high-peak-power pulses across the spectrum, which maximizes the signal intensity for fluorescence measurements when detecting low concentrations of protein.
- Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLS): Provides extremely high brightness and a broad spectrum (170nm–2100nm), allowing for high-throughput screening and measuring very small sample volumes (micro-volumes).

BP280-10 Bandpass Filter - UV-C Sterilization Monitoring
UV-C Sterilization Monitoring
- Context: 280nm is within the germicidal UV-C range (200–280nm) used to deactivate DNA/RNA in bacteria and viruses.
- Usage: Used in radiometers or sensors to monitor the output of UV sterilization systems.
- Goal: To ensure that UV-C LEDs or lamps are emitting the correct wavelength and intensity to be effective for disinfection.
Recommended Light Sources
- UV-C LEDs (275nm or 280nm): (Primary Match) These are the specific target sources for this filter. Unlike traditional mercury lamps (254nm), modern germicidal LEDs peak at 275–280nm. This filter perfectly isolates that peak to measure the precise dosage being delivered, while blocking ambient visible light or other UV noise.
- Pulsed Xenon Lamps: (Broadband Analysis) These lamps emit high-intensity flashes across the entire UV spectrum. The filter allows you to isolate and quantify specifically the 280nm component of the flash, which is a critical part of the germicidal action spectrum, ensuring the system is effective in that specific band.
- Deuterium Lamps: (Calibration Reference) Used primarily in the lab to calibrate the radiometer sensors. Since Deuterium provides a stable, known output in the 280nm region, it ensures the monitoring equipment is accurate before being deployed to test sterilization systems.
Fequently Asked Questions
What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?
For standard mounting (mounted,non-thread):
- 3.5mm (by default)
- 6mm (by request)
For unmounted Optics:
- 0.5mm
- 1.1mm
- 2mm
(most of the unmounted optics are having thickness of 1.1mm ~ 2mm)
What is the difference between mountings?
Unmounted:
- a bare glass optical filter
Mounted:
- Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.
Metric Mount:
- Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters
Imperial Mount:
- Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)
C-Mount:
- Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
