BP360-10 Bandpass Filter - Photoluminescence (PL) Studies
Photoluminescence (PL) Studies
- Used in material science to study the optical properties of semiconductors, such as Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin films, which exhibit photoluminescence when excited by UV light in this range.
Recommended Light Sources
- UV LED (365 nm or 360 nm): Cost-effective and compact; the filter efficiently "cleans" the spectral tail of a standard 365 nm LED to provide a pure excitation source without stray light interference.
- Xenon Arc Lamp: Provides high-intensity, broadband UV power; the filter isolates a precise 360 nm slice from the continuum, which is essential for characterizing samples that require high photon flux.
- Frequency-Tripled Nd:YAG Laser (355 nm): Delivers high energy density at 355 nm (just inside the filter's 355–365 nm passband), providing maximum excitation power for detecting weak photoluminescence signals from thin films.

BP360-10 Bandpass Filter - Forensic Analysis
Forensic Analysis
- Used to isolate UV light for detecting bodily fluids, fibers, or counterfeit currency features that fluoresce under 360–365 nm illumination.
Rcommended Light Sources
- High-Power UV LED Flashlight (365 nm): Portability & Signal-to-Noise. The standard tool for crime scenes; the filter is critical here to block the visible "purple glow" often emitted by LEDs. This ensures that when looking for faint biological fluids or fibers, the observer sees only the fluorescence, not the reflected purple source light.
- Alternate Light Source (ALS) / Xenon Arc Lamp: Broad Area Intensity. Used for scanning large scenes; these powerful broadband sources require the filter to slice out the specific 360 nm UV-A band, allowing investigators to flood a room with invisible UV light to reveal stains or fibers without visible glare.
- Mercury Vapor Lamp (Lab Based): Spectral Precision. Used for lab analysis of collected evidence; the lamp has a strong natural peak at 365 nm, which the filter isolates effectively to inspect documents for counterfeit features or treated papers.
Fequently Asked Questions
Different Types of Filter Mountings
Unmounted:
- a bare glass optical filter
Mounted:
- Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.
Metric Mount:
- Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters
Imperial Mount:
- Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)
C-Mount:
- Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?
For Unmounted Optics:
- 0.5mm
- 1.1mm
- 2.0mm
*Most of our optics are coming with 1.1mm and 2.0mm
With Standard Mounting (Mounted, No Thread):
- 3.5mm (Default)
- 6mm (Upon Request)
