  • BP450-30 Bandpass Filter - Fluorescence Microscopy & Bio-Imaging (Excitation Filter)

BP450-30 Bandpass Filter - Fluorescence Microscopy & Bio-Imaging (Excitation Filter)

Fluorescence Microscopy & Bio-Imaging (Excitation Filter)

This is the most likely application given the high blocking (OD6) and transmission specs. The filter is used to "clean up" the excitation light before it hits a biological sample.

    • Application: Exciting blue-absorbing fluorophores in fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry. It isolates the specific blue wavelengths needed to make a sample fluoresce green.
    • Target Fluorophores: Suitable for exciting dyes and proteins such as Auramine O, Acridine Orange, EGFP (on the absorption shoulder), and various auto-fluorescent compounds (like chlorophyll or collagen).

    Recommended Light Sources

    • High-Power Blue LEDs: specifically those with a peak output around 440 nm – 450 nm.
    • Broadband Sources: Mercury (Hg) Arc Lamps or Xenon Arc Lamps (the filter effectively blocks the intense UV and green/red bands from these lamps, passing only the blue excitation energy).
  • BP450-30 Bandpass Filter - Laser Line "Clean-up" (Blue Diode Lasers)

BP450-30 Bandpass Filter - Laser Line "Clean-up" (Blue Diode Lasers)

Laser Line "Clean-up" (Blue Diode Lasers)

The 450 nm wavelength is a standard for high-power blue diode lasers.

    • Application: Cleaning up the spectral output of a blue laser. Diode lasers often have "spectral wings" or spontaneous emission noise outside their peak. This filter ensures only the pure 450 nm laser line reaches the target, which is critical for precise interferometry, holography, or Raman spectroscopy excitation.

    Recommended Light Sources

    • 450 nm Blue Diode Lasers (commonly used in engraving, welding, and display technology).

Fequently Asked Questions

Different Types of Filter Mountings

Unmounted:

  • a bare glass optical filter

Mounted:

  • Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.

Metric Mount:

  • Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters

Imperial Mount:

  • Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)

C-Mount:

  • Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.

What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?

For Unmounted Optics:

  • 0.5mm
  • 1.1mm
  • 2.0mm

*Most of our optics are coming with 1.1mm and 2.0mm

With Standard Mounting (Mounted, No Thread):

  • 3.5mm (Default)
  • 6mm (Upon Request)

Thread Mounted:

  • 6mm - 8mm
  • dia12.5mm(mounted)
