BP560-80 Bandpass Filter - Fluorescence Microscopy & Flow Cytometry (Emission Filter)
Fluorescence Microscopy & Flow Cytometry (Emission Filter)
This is the most likely application for an OD5 filter. The 520–600 nm range captures the fluorescence emission of several common yellow/orange dyes.
Target Fluorophores:
- R-Phycoerythrin (PE): One of the most common flow cytometry dyes.Excitation: 488 nm or 532 nm.Emission: ~575 nm.Fit: The 520–600 nm window captures the entire PE emission peak while blocking the 488 nm excitation laser (OD5).
- Rhodamine 6G / Rhodamine 123:Excitation: ~500–525 nm.Emission: ~530–560 nm.
- Cy3 (Cyanine 3) / TRITC:Excitation: ~550 nm.Emission: ~570 nm.Note: You can only use this filter for Cy3/TRITC if the excitation source is not within the 520–600 nm passband (see Light Sources below).
Recommended Light Sources
- 488 nm Blue Laser (Argon or Solid State):
Best Match. The filter (OD5 @ 488 nm) will completely block the laser light, allowing only the fluorescence signal (e.g., from PE or Rhodamine) to pass.
- Blue LED (470 nm - 490 nm):
Suitable for exciting PE or GFP-like variants. The filter blocks the LED excitation light.

BP560-80 Bandpass Filter - Multispectral Imaging (Agriculture / NDVI)
Multispectral Imaging (Agriculture / NDVI)
The 560 nm wavelength corresponds to the "Green Peak" of vegetation reflectance (detecting chlorophyll content).
- Application: Drones or agricultural cameras use this band to assess plant health.
- Fit: The 80 nm bandwidth (520–600 nm) collects a broad amount of green light, useful for low-light conditions, while the OD5 blocking eliminates Near-Infrared (NIR) interference which is critical for accurate vegetation indices.
Recommended Light Sources
- Solar Radiation (Sunlight):For agricultural multispectral imaging and NDVI applications, the standard light source is ambient sunlight.
Fequently Asked Questions
Different Types of Filter Mountings
Unmounted:
- a bare glass optical filter
Mounted:
- Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.
Metric Mount:
- Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters
Imperial Mount:
- Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)
C-Mount:
- Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?
For Unmounted Optics:
- 0.5mm
- 1.1mm
- 2.0mm
*Most of our optics are coming with 1.1mm and 2.0mm
With Standard Mounting (Mounted, No Thread):
- 3.5mm (Default)
- 6mm (Upon Request)
