  • BP800-50 Bandpass Filter - NIR Fluorescence Imaging (Life Sciences)

BP800-50 Bandpass Filter - NIR Fluorescence Imaging (Life Sciences)

    NIR Fluorescence Imaging (Life Sciences)

This is the most likely application for a filter with OD5 blocking (which blocks 99.999% of unwanted light). In fluorescence microscopy or in vivo imaging, you need this high level of blocking to reject the powerful excitation light and only detect the weak fluorescence emission from the sample.

    • Specific Use: Acting as an Emission Filter for NIR fluorophores.
    • Target Fluorophores:
    1. IRDye® 800CW: (Peak Excitation ~774 nm / Peak Emission ~789 nm). This filter (775–825 nm range) captures the emission peak while blocking the excitation source.
    2. Alexa Fluor® 790: (Peak Excitation ~792 nm / Peak Emission ~803 nm).
    3. Indocyanine Green (ICG): (Peak Excitation ~780 nm / Peak Emission ~830 nm). While an 830 nm filter is standard for ICG, an 800-50 filter captures the "shoulder" of the emission and is often used in multi-color setups to avoid crosstalk with longer-wavelength channels.

    Recommended Light Source

    • Excitation Lasers: 780 nm or 785 nm Laser Diodes. (Must be spectrally separated from the filter's 800 nm passband).
    • Filtered LEDs: High-power 740 nm or 770 nm LEDs equipped with a clean-up excitation filter to ensure no light leaks into the 800 nm detection range.
  • BP800-50 Bandpass Filter - Industrial Machine Vision & Inspection

BP800-50 Bandpass Filter - Industrial Machine Vision & Inspection

    Industrial Machine Vision & Inspection

In factory automation, 800 nm imaging is used to inspect products that may look different in infrared than in visible light (e.g., seeing through certain plastics, inspecting fruit/produce bruising, or OCR on printed circuits).

    • Specific Use: Improving contrast and removing ambient light interference.

    Recommended Light Source

    • Matched LEDs: 800 nm or 805 nm NIR LEDs.

Why: In this application, the light source matches the filter. The filter blocks all ambient room light (visible sunlight, overhead fluorescents) and only accepts the specific 800 nm light from the machine vision illuminator, creating a high-contrast image.

Fequently Asked Questions

Different Types of Filter Mountings

Unmounted:

  • a bare glass optical filter

Mounted:

  • Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.

Metric Mount:

  • Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters

Imperial Mount:

  • Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)

C-Mount:

  • Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.

What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?

For Unmounted Optics:

  • 0.5mm
  • 1.1mm
  • 2.0mm

*Most of our optics are coming with 1.1mm and 2.0mm
