BP970-10 Bandpass Filter - Moisture & Water Content Measurement
Moisture & Water Content Measurement
- How it works: Water absorbs light at 970 nm. By measuring how much 970 nm light is reflected or transmitted through a sample, you can calculate its moisture content. (More water = Less signal).
- Use Cases: Agriculture (monitoring vegetation water stress), food processing (measuring moisture in grains or baked goods), and paper manufacturing.
Recommended Light Sources
- Tungsten-Halogen Lamp (Broadband Source): These lamps are extremely stable over time, which is critical for quantitative measurements (calculating exact water %). They also allow you to add a second filter (e.g., at 800 nm) later if you need a "reference wavelength" to correct for surface scattering.
- High-Power 970 nm LED (Narrowband Source): Low power consumption, minimal heat generation (preventing the sample from drying out during measurement), and very long lifespan.
-
BP970-10 Bandpass Filter - NIR Machine Vision & Inspection
NIR Machine Vision & Inspection
- How it works: Using this filter allows a camera to "blind" itself to sunlight and room lighting, seeing only the 970 nm light source.
- Use Cases: Optical sorting, quality control in factories, or night-time surveillance where invisible IR illumination is required.
Recommended Light Sources
- High-Power NIR LEDs (970 nm)
- Spectral Match: Unlike standard "white" lights that waste energy across the spectrum, these LEDs emit all their power right at 970 nm. The BP970-10 filter passes this light through while blocking sunlight and factory lights.
- Strobing Capability: In high-speed sorting, LEDs can be pulsed (strobed) to freeze motion and provide bursts of intensity that overpower ambient light.
- Invisibility: The light is invisible to the human eye, avoiding operator distraction or light pollution in dark environments.
- NIR Laser Diodes (970 nm): If you need to measure the shape or volume of an object (not just take a picture), a laser projects a precise line or grid. The filter ensures the camera sees only that laser line, even in bright conditions.
Fequently Asked Questions
Different Types of Filter Mountings
Unmounted:
- a bare glass optical filter
Mounted:
- Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.
Metric Mount:
- Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters
Imperial Mount:
- Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)
C-Mount:
- Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?
For Unmounted Optics:
- 0.5mm
- 1.1mm
- 2.0mm
*Most of our optics are coming with 1.1mm and 2.0mm
With Standard Mounting (Mounted, No Thread):
- 3.5mm (Default)
- 6mm (Upon Request)
