BP980-10 Bandpass Filter - Fluorescence Microscopy (Upconversion)
Fluorescence Microscopy (Upconversion)
- Use Case: This is a primary application for 980 nm optics. Upconversion Nanoparticles (UCNPs) are widely used in bio-imaging. They are excited by a 980 nm laser and emit visible light (anti-Stokes shift).
- Filter Function: The BP980-10 is used as an Excitation Filter or Laser Line Clean-up Filter. It ensures that only the pure 980 nm laser light reaches the sample, blocking any unwanted "sideband" emissions from the laser diode that could interfere with the fluorescence signal.
Recommended Light Sources
- 980 nm Laser Diode: It provides the high photon flux density strictly required to trigger the non-linear upconversion process and offers a narrow spectral linewidth (<5 nm) that matches the BP980-10 filter perfectly, ensuring maximum excitation efficiency.
-
BP980-10 Bandpass Filter - Telecommunications (EDFA Pumping)
Telecommunications (EDFA Pumping)
- Use Case: 980 nm is the standard pump wavelength for Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) used in fiber optic networks.
- Filter Function: Used in lab setups or quality control to monitor the pump laser's output or to filter out the 980 nm pump light from the 1550 nm signal path (though a dichroic is more common for separation, a bandpass ensures source purity).
Recommended Light Sources
- 980 nm Laser Diode: It provides the high photon flux density strictly required to trigger the non-linear upconversion process and offers a narrow spectral linewidth (<5 nm) that matches the BP980-10 filter perfectly, ensuring maximum excitation efficiency.
Fequently Asked Questions
What are the Thickness of the Optical Filters?
For standard mounting (mounted,non-thread):
- 3.5mm (by default)
- 6mm (by request)
For unmounted Optics:
- 0.5mm
- 1.1mm
- 2mm
(most of the unmounted optics are having thickness of 1.1mm ~ 2mm)
What is the difference between mountings?
Unmounted:
- a bare glass optical filter
Mounted:
- Smooth Mount for protection of the optics. No thread is there on the mount.
Metric Mount:
- Start with M as prefix, usually seens as M25.5x0.5mm. Mostly used as camera filters
Imperial Mount:
- Start with SM as prefix, usually seen SM1, SM05 etc... Mostly used in Optical system. (You will have a SM external thread to connecting to other objects)
C-Mount:
- Very frequently used mounting. C-Mount is 1‘’-32TPI. And it is not the same thing as SM1, or M25.5x0.5mm.
