  • LP510 Longpass Filter - Fluorescence Imaging and Microscopy

LP510 Longpass Filter - Fluorescence Imaging and Microscopy

    Fluorescence Imaging and Microscopy

In this application, scientists shine a blue or UV light on a sample (like cells, plants, or minerals) to make it glow in different colors (fluoresce). The LP510 filter acts like a pair of protective sunglasses for the camera lens. It strongly blocks the bright blue/UV "shining" light (from 200-500nm) so it doesn't blind the camera, while letting the much fainter green, red, or infrared "glowing" light (520-1200nm) pass through to be captured clearly.

    Recommended light source:

    • Blue LED (e.g., 470nm or 488nm): It is excellent for "waking up" or exciting many common fluorescent dyes. Because its wavelength is strictly under 500nm, the filter will completely block it from ruining the final image.
    • UV Light or UV LED (under 400nm): Great for examining forensic evidence, counterfeit money, or specific minerals. The filter easily blocks the harsh UV glare while letting the resulting colorful glow pass through to the camera.
  • LP510 Longpass Filter - Outdoor Photography and Drone Mapping

LP510 Longpass Filter - Outdoor Photography and Drone Mapping

    Outdoor Photography and Drone Mapping

In the earth's atmosphere, blue and UV light scatter everywhere, creating a visual "haze" or fogginess over long distances. This filter acts as a "haze-cutter" for specialized photography or aerial drones. By blocking the scattered blue light and letting only the direct green, red, and infrared light through, it creates incredibly sharp, high-contrast images of landscapes.

    Recommended light source:

    • Natural Sunlight: Sunlight provides a massive, full spectrum of light. Using the filter outdoors removes the scattered blue sky haze and invisible UV rays, resulting in crisp, detailed photos of the ground.
    • Infrared (IR) Illuminators: For drones or outdoor security cameras working in low light, these invisible lights provide illumination that perfectly passes through the filter's 520-1200nm opening, allowing the camera to see clearly in the dark without being distracted by streetlights.
