SP1050 Shortpass Filter - Laser Process Monitoring
Laser Process Monitoring
The most distinct application for this filter is Machine Vision inspection in the presence of Nd:YAG or Fiber Lasers.
In industrial settings (like laser welding, cutting, or marking), high-power lasers operating at 1064nm are used to melt metal. Cameras need to monitor the "weld pool" or the part being processed without being blinded or damaged by the intense reflection of the laser beam.
- How it works: The SP1050 acts as a "laser clean-up" or protection filter. It blocks the blinding 1064nm laser spike (and longer wavelengths) while allowing the camera to see the thermal glow of the weld pool or external illumination (which is often in the visible or 800-950nm range).
Recommended Light Sources
- 940nm High-Power LEDs: These emit at a wavelength that passes through the filter with high efficiency (>90%) but is close enough to the infrared spectrum to reduce visual distractions for operators; they provide strong illumination for the camera while the filter strictly blocks the nearby 1064nm laser reflections.
- 850nm NIR LEDs: This is a standard machine vision wavelength that matches the peak sensitivity of most industrial silicon sensors (CCD/CMOS) and passes completely through the 500-1040nm passband, ensuring bright, low-noise images of the workpiece.
- Visible Spectrum LEDs (White or Red): These are recommended when the application requires color contrast or manual visual verification by operators, as the filter allows full transmission of visible light while still protecting the sensor from the damaging IR laser energy.

SP1050 Shortpass Filter - LiDAR & Remote Sensing
LiDAR & Remote Sensing
It effectively filters out background noise from 1064nm or 1550nm sources while permitting detectors to see signals in the 900-1000nm range (common for many LiDAR diodes).
Recommended Light Sources
- 905nm Pulsed Laser Diodes: These are the industry standard for Time-of-Flight (ToF) LiDAR systems; the SP1050 allows this wavelength to pass with maximum transmission (>90%) while blocking longer-wavelength interference from common environmental sources or other laser systems.
- 940nm VCSEL Arrays: These sources are increasingly used for short-to-medium range sensing (like facial recognition or obstacle avoidance) because the 940nm wavelength suffers less interference from sunlight; the filter passes this signal clearly while protecting the detector from specific 1064nm noise sources.
- 980nm Laser Diodes: Often used in specialized remote sensing or pumping applications, this wavelength sits near the upper limit of the filter's passband, allowing for detection systems that need to operate discreetly just below the 1000nm cutoff.
